Liturgical Ministries

Our Ministry

Liturgical ministries support our liturgies, enhance our faith, and fulfill our duty to full, conscious, and active participation in the Eucharist.

Altar Servers

Altar Servers are part of a very ancient tradition in the liturgical life of the Church. Altar Servers assist the priest and deacon during the celebration of the Mass so that the liturgy can be conducted with grace and reverence. This ministry is open to all, including adults, who have received the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. Training is provided.

Readers or Lectors

Lectors proclaim the Word of God during Mass and other liturgical celebrations. Lectors must be comfortable speaking in front of people in an articulate and engaging voice. They must be willing to prepare each reading so it is proclaimed with dignity. Workbooks are provided. This ministry is open to all, 18 years and older, who have received the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. Training is required.

Ushers and Greeters

Ushers offer hospitality by welcoming people, receiving every visitor as one would receive Christ. Duties also include collecting the offering, guiding movement of the Communion procession, passing out worship aids and bulletins and collecting worship aids after Mass. This ministry is open to all who have received the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. Training is provided.

Ministers of Communion

Extraordinary (Eucharistic) Ministers assist the presider in the distribution of the Holy Eucharist during Mass. This ministry requires a deep faith and reverence for the Blessed Sacrament, and dignity in the sacred duties performed. You must be willing to attend both diocesan and parish training sessions. This ministry is open to all, 18 years and older, who have received the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. Training is required.

Sacristans

The role of a sacristan is one of supporting the priest, the liturgical ministers and the liturgy itself by preparing both the sacristy and the sanctuary for the celebration of Mass. The sacristan makes ready the holy vessels, sacred linens and liturgical books needed for Mass and cleans up after Mass. Sacristans must be reverent, responsible, mature, quick-learners, very organized and reliable. This ministry is open to adults who have received the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. Training is required.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild is a ministry devoted to caring for the altar, vestments, vessels, and altar linens of the parish. Includes polishing, laundry, light cleaning, and preparing for large liturgical events. Members are mindful of the holy place in which they serve in this quiet, behind-the-scenes ministry. Training is provided.
